Take a Holiday!

Ham and Carrie are on Holiday....out in the deep blue pacific. Here is wishing them a marvelous time!! Alex wrote wanting to see her video that I had forgotten to post, and after watching what a great time we had back in December for her AOW.....it has me thinking. Its time for all of us to go on a Holiday. Even if only for a weekend. -MB

Dive Report 3 April

A diver seeking a refresher cancelled because of a fear of the weather and I got to do a one-hour, twenty-two minute fun dive with Tobin under the little east bridge. The sky was overcast, but we never experienced more than sprinkles; not much of an effect on the diving except that there were few, if any people fishing from the bridge! I learned quite some time ago that if I sat at home because of a Florida thunder storm that might or might not happen, I'd miss many wonderful experiences. Tobin found a ten-inch mantis shrimp out of its hole. I have never seen one out its hole. We've played with them by dropping a small shell down a hole and watching the shrimp remove it, but this one was completely out in the open. Incredible! We also saw several octopi, one of which was quite large. A sharptail eel was poking around looking for a meal. The resident snook were around both the little wrecks under the bridge. The large schools of bermuda chub and atlantic spadefish were also there. A good number of french angels live under that bridge, too. To top things off, Tobin found a seahorse toward the western side of the bridge. In seventy-five degree water with about ten feet of vis we had a great dive. Get in the water, Ham

Dive Report 2 April

The water is warmer! An open water student and I did a one-hour, twenty-minute dive time; in my 3mm wetsuit with a 3mm hooded vest I was toasty the whole time. My student had only a 3mm wetsuit, but was quite comfortable. Carrie showed two Discover Scuba participants some of the wonders of bridge diving while my student and I ran through the open water skill set. In doing so we saw two bandtail searobins, small ones. On our way back towards the beach from the channel at the first set of pilings from the beach we saw a seahorse. During our long snorkeling exercise in the swimming area we saw an octopus fully out and hunting. A little eyed flounder just missed being the octopus' supper. Again, the water is warm; get in it, Ham

Dive Report 1 April

What a day to play hooky! We had a bright, sunny, and BREEZY day with a good chop coming from the south south east, but we still had 15'-20' of vis in water that was seventy-seven to seventy-nine degrees! I was in my 3mm wetsuit for the first time this year with a 3mm hooded vest and I was comfortable throughout our one hour, fifty-minute dive. Carrie and I were playing with new fins and had no responsibilities so we poked our way around in super slow motion. Only by going so slowly did I see a decorator crab. Incredible camoflage! It was also a three octopi day, one of which is living in a beer can, no kidding! Carrie filled her shell jar and I recovered an action toy and a fishing lure! Who knows what treasures are there yet to be discovered. The water is getting warmer. Take advantage of this great dive site in our backyard. Get in the water, Ham
